Woolf received his BS degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his MA degree in International Relations from John Hopkins  University.  He commanded an infantry company in the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm and later returned to West Point as an Assistant Professor and Course Director for the Department of Social Sciences.

After leaving the military, Woolf began working in sales, planning and marketing for a number of software companies.  He is the Co-Founder of viaPeople, a software company in the talent and performance management market.  Woolf served as the past President of the Board for EDGE Training and Placement Inc, an organization delivering education, vocational training and development to at-risk and adjudicated youth.  He currently serves as a follow-on mentor for the West Point Wounded-Warrior Mentor Program, which provides relocation and transition assistance to wounded service members returning to North Carolina.

Dave grew up in New Concord, Ohio, and permanently moved to North Carolina in 1996. He lives in Durham and is married with one daughter.
