Orr Ahead in Latest Civitas Poll

( Raleigh,  NC) – Wednesday, September 19 the John William Pope Civitas Institute released their September poll results.When asked registered Republicans who they would vote for should the Republican Primary be held today, 12% of the respondents chose Justice Orr. Orr’s primary opponents tied at 11%.

“Considering our relatively late start in entering the campaign and the amount of money spent by our primary opponents over the past several months, I am delighted with these early results.” Orr said. “It’s obvious that most potential voters are not currently focused on the race,” he added “but our campaign looks forward to engaging citizens all across the state in the months to come.”  

Orr also noted that the poll results showing a huge percentage of N.C. voters opposed to the Goodyear subsidy package would be a big advantage for his campaign. “We have been leading the fight for years now to reform this broken system of selected tax dollar giveaways to these international corporate giants. This issue is becoming a major focus of the 2008 race for Governor,” Orr said. “I will be proposing specific reforms in the weeks ahead to address these problems."

80% of the voters polled opposed the $60 million Goodyear subsidy package recently passed by the general assembly.
