| Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Orr Responds to Candidates’ Reactions to Immigration Plan |
|
Raleigh, NC: Justice Bob Orr, Republican candidate for governor, had the following to say in response to Pat McCrory and Bill Graham’s reactions to his immigration proposal, as stated in today’s edition of The Charlotte Observer. “Mr. McCrory says that we need to enforce the law and not just sue our way out of a problem and Mr. Graham asserts that the problem would be better solved on the front end through good enforcement. I could not agree with them more, however, the bottom line is that years of inaction by the federal government make their arguments meritless.” Orr adds, “The simple fact is that neither McCrory or Graham have come forward with ideas on funding solutions to our illegal immigration expenses. Building a detention facility just compounds the expense incurred by the legal citizens of North Carolina. I am concerned by the fact that our Republican candidates are starting to sound similar to the Democrats with promises of programs with no explanation of a reasonable method for payment. While suing the federal government is not an action to be taken likely, it is a reasonable solution if the State of North Carolina is left with no other reasonable financial recourse.” Click here for Justice Orr’s complete
