Orr to Attend 40th Anniversary of
North Carolina Court of Appeals

(Raleigh, NC) Justice Bob Orr, Republican candidate for governor, will attend the 40th anniversary celebration of the North Carolina Court of Appeals on Thursday, January 31st at 2 p.m. in the historic courtroom in Raleigh.   The Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court for the State of North Carolina and is currently comprised of 15 judges, each elected statewide.

Justice Orr was originally appointed to the Court of Appeals in September, 1986, by Governor Jim Martin.  In November, 1988, he became the first Republican ever elected to the Court of Appeals.  Justice Orr was then reelected to the Court of Appeals in 1992 becoming the only Republican in North Carolina history to be elected twice to the Court of Appeals.

“I am looking forward to the ceremony at the courtroom and to visiting with colleagues and friends who have served on and worked for the Court over the years,” Orr said.  “My 8 years on the court were marked by two intense and victorious statewide campaigns and the opportunity to deal with the most interesting and complex issues facing our state.  It was a privilege and an honor to serve.”

Orr was elected to the Supreme Court in 1994 and reelected in 2002.  After his retirement in 2004, Justice Orr served for 3 years as Executive Director of the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law.
